Watch out before riding highway bus in Japan

There are three major ways to move long distance in Japan. By airplane, Shinkansen, and highway bus. If you focus on the cheapness, you may take the highway/night bus.

Today, it's about the highway/night bus on this blog.

Comfort of the seats

The important point about the highway/night bus is whether you can sleep well or not.
The shape and comfort of the seats are completely different depending on the bus.
The shape of backrest may not fit very well.
Bring small cushions or something.

Probably rental blankets are available in almost all of the highway/night buses.

Often, bathrooms are not installed on the bus.

Luggages

You can check your luggage to the boot. Before riding, have your property at hand if you need it in the bus.

Before the ride

Generally, you must reserve seats before riding a highway/night bus. If you have a request for a seat location, contact the bus company as soon as possible.

There are many buses that women and men don't sit next to each other if they are strangers. There are also many women-only buses. Confirm it before reservation.

Break time while on the journey

The buses stop at rest areas for 10~15 minutes every 2~3 hours.
Please be careful about time if you leave the bus ... not to be left behind.

Recommendation the bus I've ride on

The bus that I had the most comfortable ride is "Cherish(チェリッシュ)" (VIP Liner). It goes between Tokyo and Osaka/Kyoto. "Cherish" is for women only.
